Dubai World Trade Centre, Exhibition complex in Dubai, United Arab Emirates
The Dubai World Trade Centre is an exhibition complex with office tower in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, rising to a height of 184 meters (604 feet) with 39 floors. The facility offers exhibition halls, conference rooms and commercial spaces for international events across multiple levels.
The tower was completed in 1979 as Sheikh Rashid Tower and remained the tallest building in Dubai for twenty years. After its opening, it marked the city's shift from a trading hub to an international exhibition destination.
The tower appeared on the back of the United Arab Emirates 100 dirham banknote, symbolizing the economic importance of Dubai for the country. Today local and international companies use the facility for business meetings, trade fairs and exhibitions of all kinds.
The center contains over 1.3 million square feet (120,000 square meters) of covered exhibition space with 21 halls and 40 conference rooms across three levels. The complex sits centrally on Sheikh Zayed Road and is easily reachable from different parts of the city.
During the 2020 pandemic, the center temporarily transformed into a field hospital with capacity for 3,000 patients. The rapid conversion of the exhibition halls demonstrated the flexibility of the large display areas for emergency situations.
