Sakamkam Fort

Sakamkam Fort is a military structure built on raised ground featuring a round watchtower and two enclosed sections on the western side connected by adjoining buildings. The layout demonstrates a purposeful defensive design characteristic of fortifications from this era.

The structure was built in the 19th century as a defensive outpost linked to Fujairah Fort and functioned as a strategic lookout point for monitoring regional activities of that period.

Archaeological digs near the fort uncovered 126 burials from the Wadi Suq period, revealing how ancient communities in this region buried their dead and organized their settlements.

The fort is accessible via unpaved roads north of the Yabsa Bypass Road E184 and offers free entry to all visitors. The approach route is not paved, so sturdy footwear and time for walking on uneven terrain are advisable.

The fort sits at 131 meters above sea level and blends elements from different phases of Emirati defensive architecture on its structure. This layering of building styles reflects how local fortification techniques evolved across generations.
