Armavir Province

The province stretches along the Ararat plain between Mount Ararat and Mount Aragats, containing 97 communities across 1,242 square kilometers of territory.

The region derives its name from the ancient city of Armavir, established in 331 BC, and played a critical role in the 1918 Battle of Sardarabad.

The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, the central religious complex of the Armenian Apostolic Church, stands in Vagharshapat as a major pilgrimage destination.

The province maintains 72 kilometers of border with Turkey and houses the Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant, which generates 40 percent of Armenia's electricity.

Archaeological excavations at Metsamor Castle revealed more than 22,000 artifacts, documenting continuous human settlement from the 5th millennium BC.
