Rose Atoll, Marine sanctuary in American Samoa, US.

Rose Atoll consists of two small islands, Sand Island and Rose Island, surrounded by coral reefs in the southwestern Pacific Ocean.

French explorer Louis de Freycinet discovered Rose Atoll in 1819 during his maritime expedition, naming it after his wife.

The atoll serves as a protected marine habitat within American Samoa, supporting traditional Pacific marine conservation practices.

Access to Rose Atoll National Wildlife Refuge requires a special use permit obtained through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

The refuge contains ninety-seven percent of American Samoa's seabird population and houses numerous species of giant clams.
