Huancané Province

Huancané Province extends across 2,805 square kilometers of southern Peru, featuring eight distinct districts and mountainous terrain reaching 5,000 meters in elevation.

The province was established on January 1, 1827, marking a significant reorganization of Peru's administrative territories in the early years of independence.

The local population maintains strong indigenous traditions, with over fifty percent of residents speaking Aymara and thirty percent speaking Quechua as their first language.

The regional capital Huancané sits at 3,841 meters above sea level, experiencing temperatures between -5°C in July and 17°C in November with annual rainfall of 632 millimeters.

The province shares an eastern border with Bolivia, creating a zone of cultural exchange that influences local commerce and traditions across the international boundary.
