Place of Memory, Tolerance and Social Inclusion, Museum of memory in Miraflores, Peru.
This museum sits in a concrete building with more than 7,500 square meters on the Miraflores coast. The architecture echoes shapes of the surrounding cliffs and connects indoor and outdoor areas through multiple levels.
The institution was created as a memorial for the internal armed conflict that marked Peru for two decades. It opened in 2015 after years of discussion about how to shape such a space.
The building creates a space for remembering people who suffered or lost their lives during the violence between 1980 and 2000. Visitors encounter testimonies that preserve stories of victims and survivors.
The building is located at Bajada San Martin 151 and is open Monday through Friday. All areas are wheelchair accessible, and entry is through the main entrance near the coastal road.
The esplanade uses reeds and material from the nearby cliffs and forms a public plaza that opens toward the coast. This area serves as a place for gathering and reflection outside the exhibition rooms.
