Monument to Miguel Grau, Naval memorial in Plaza Grau, Lima, Peru
Monument to Miguel Grau is a granite and bronze structure in Plaza Grau, Lima. The four-sided tower rises 21 meters and features a statue of the Admiral in dress uniform, surrounded by additional sculptural figures and maritime ornamentation.
Spanish sculptor Victorio Macho designed this memorial, which was unveiled on October 28, 1946, under President José Luis Bustamante y Rivero. The monument honors the Admiral for his significant role in Peru's naval history.
The monument displays figures climbing upward, representing the resolve of naval personnel in their service. Maritime symbols such as anchors and ship wheels surround the central statue, connecting the work to seafaring traditions.
The memorial sits in the center of Plaza Grau at a major traffic intersection where several wide avenues converge. The location is easily accessible on foot and offers open space to walk around and view the structure from different angles.
A survivor of the Huascar naval vessel attended the opening ceremony and personally unveiled the completed monument. This presence made the day a living connection to Peru's maritime past.
