Sagrados Corazones - Recoleta, Catholic church in Plaza Francia, Lima District, Peru

Sagrados Corazones is a Catholic church with a rectangular layout, six niche chapels along its lateral walls, and two neogothic towers on its facade. The building sits in an irregular position at Plaza Francia, accessed by a narrow street that follows the contours of the surrounding area.

Founded in 1606 by Friar Juan de Lorenzana, the church was dedicated to Saint Mary Magdalene on 23 June 1606. It was damaged by the earthquakes of 1687 and 1746, and rebuilt after a fire in 1868. The reconstruction gave it a neoclassical layout and a neo-Gothic facade.

The church is also known as La Recoleta, from the Recoleta de la Magdalena founded in 1606 under the name of Saint Mary Magdalene. The irregular plaza attached to the atrium follows the line of a pre-existing Inca road, a layout visitors can still trace today.

The church is located at Garcilaso de la Vega 1131 in Lima District and receives visitors throughout the week. Keep in mind that regular services are held, so access may be limited during certain times of day.

The church's atrium opens onto an irregular small plaza that sits against a pre-existing Inca road, whose line still shapes the ground plan of the block. The building was declared a Cultural Heritage Property of Peru in 2001.
