Bellavista is an administrative district in Callao's Constitutional Province, Peru, divided into four main neighborhoods: the historic center, a fishing quarter, a residential area with gardens, and a mixed zone combining two adjacent communities. The district occupies several square kilometers and sits in a strategic location between the international airport and Lima.
The district was founded in 1746 following an earthquake and tidal wave, when the Viceroy ordered the establishment of a new settlement on previously privately owned land. This founding represented the rebuilding and reorganization of Callao after the natural disaster.
Each neighborhood within Bellavista maintains its own traditions, with the Cercado area preserving colonial architecture and Ciudad del Pescador reflecting maritime heritage.
The district connects directly to the international airport and provides road access to Lima through a main avenue, making it a key transportation hub. Visitors can easily move between the airport, its various neighborhoods, and the capital.
The district features a rectangular grid layout that sets it apart from other areas in Callao, an unusual urban design feature in the region. Additionally, it houses the provincial government headquarters, giving it an important institutional role.
