Chota District, Administrative district in Cajamarca Region, Peru
The district spans across 261.75 square kilometers of mountainous terrain at an elevation of 2,388 meters above sea level in northern Peru.
The territory was initially inhabited by Los Huambos and Cuismanco cultures before Tupac Yupanqui incorporated the region into the Inca Empire in the 15th century.
The San Juan festival, celebrated from June 13 to June 24, features traditional concerts, regional dishes, folk dances, bullfights, and beauty contests at Sanjuanpampa.
The district contains nineteen administrative subdivisions, each with local government structures managing services for approximately 47,279 residents according to the 2017 census.
The Plaza de Toros El Vizcaino stands as Peru's second largest bullring, establishing Chota's position as the primary bullfighting center in northern Peru.
