Chordeleg Canton

Chordeleg is a mountain canton capital in Azuay Province, located across the Andean region with several rivers flowing through it, including the Santa Barbara and Pungo Huayco. The area includes multiple administrative parishes spread across the mountainous terrain.

The area became a canton in 1992, building upon a settlement established by the Cañari people in ancient times. The region has maintained a continuous tradition of craftsmanship and pottery production that stretches back centuries.

Local artisans focus on creating delicate gold and silver filigree jewelry, a tradition that shapes how the town looks and functions in its everyday life. You will notice the jewelry stores and workshops scattered throughout the center, reflecting this long-standing craft heritage.
