San Luis is the provincial capital in the Juan Martín de Pueyrredón region of San Luis Province in Argentina. Wide boulevards run through the downtown area, while residential neighborhoods spread across the foothills of the sierra.
Luis Jufré de Loaysa y Meneses founded the settlement in 1594 as a connecting point between the eastern and western regions of the viceroyalty. Its location made it an important stopover for travelers between Buenos Aires and the Chilean border.
The main square is named Plaza Pringles and serves as a gathering point for locals, surrounded by cafés and shops. On weekends, it often hosts markets and street vendors offering regional products.
