Potrero de los Funes, human settlement in Argentina
Potrero de los Funes is a municipality in San Luis Province located in a valley surrounded by mountains reaching around 3300 feet (1000 m) in elevation. A large reservoir sits at the center, rimmed by green hills and forests, with streams and small waterfalls scattered throughout the landscape.
The region was a traditional mining area where gold and other minerals were extracted, as shown in the nearby towns of La Carolina and San Francisco Monte de Oro. The municipality later developed as a recreational destination after water reservoirs were built for agriculture and tourism.
Summer is the best time to visit when the water is warm for swimming, but winter brings cooler weather and occasional snow in higher elevations. The area has various lodging options from hotels to cabins, and many hiking trails of different difficulty levels that you can explore on your own.
