Aconguija National Park, National park in Tucumán Province, Argentina.
Aconguija National Park is a protected area in Tucumán Province that stretches across the eastern slopes of the Aconguija Mountains. The landscape shifts from thick mountain forests at lower elevations to sparse plateaus and snow-capped peaks at higher altitudes.
The protected area was originally founded in 1995 as Campo de los Alisos National Park and received its current name through legislation in 2018. The name change accompanied an expansion of the park to better align its boundaries with the natural mountain ranges.
The park spans through five departments of Tucumán Province, preserving natural corridors that connect different indigenous communities of the region through generations.
The park can be reached via National Route 38 from Tucumán, which runs through the province and is well maintained. The best time to visit is between fall and spring when weather conditions are milder and trails are easier to access.
The area is home to over 400 vertebrate species that thrive across this mountain region. The park also protects the source areas of several rivers at elevations that nearly reach 5,000 meters.
