Cerro del Nacimiento, Mountain summit in Catamarca Province, Argentina

Walter Penck is a mountain summit in the Cordillera de la Ramada that rises to approximately 6,700 meters (22,000 feet). The peak features steep slopes and exposed rock formations across its upper reaches.

The peak was named after a German geologist who conducted fieldwork in the Andean region during the early 1900s. This naming reflects a period when international scientists were actively studying South American mountain systems.

The mountain bears the name of a German geologist and draws those fascinated by Andean geology and mountain research. Visitors sense the connection to early 20th-century scientific exploration when standing on these slopes.

Access to the mountain starts through the town of Fiambalá, where climbers should register with local authorities and arrange high-altitude gear. Before attempting the climb, gather information about current conditions and weather patterns at this elevation.

From this summit, you can observe the neighboring volcanic mass of Nevado Ojos del Salado in clear detail. This vantage point makes it a valuable location for understanding the region's volcanic geology firsthand.
