Atacama Cosmology Telescope

The Atacama Cosmology Telescope measures cosmic microwave background radiation with its 6-meter diameter mirror at 5,190 meters elevation in northern Chile.

The telescope began operations in October 2007 and conducted observations until 2022, making substantial discoveries about the early universe through microwave measurements.

Research teams from Princeton University, Cornell University, and other institutions worldwide collaborate at this facility to study cosmic evolution.

The telescope benefits from the Atacama Desert's dry conditions and high altitude, which minimize interference in microwave observations of deep space.

This instrument detected seven acoustic peaks in the cosmic microwave background radiation and first observed gravitational lensing in CMB mapping.
