Jorcada, Mountain summit in Potosí Region, Bolivia
Jorcada is a volcanic mountain in the Bolivian Andes rising to about 5,700 meters above sea level. Multiple craters and ancient lava flows shape the landscape, creating a complex and varied terrain across the summit area.
The volcanic complex last erupted approximately 95,000 years ago and has remained geologically inactive since. This ancient activity shaped the summit formations that visitors see today.
The stratovolcano complex stands as a testament to Bolivia's natural formations, drawing geologists and researchers to study its volcanic structures.
Climbing the summit requires mountaineering experience and proper acclimatization due to the high altitude. Bring warm clothing and weather protection, as conditions are often cold and windy.
The site contains more than 50 craters distributed across multiple fissures and lava formations. This dense concentration of volcanic features makes it valuable for studying how volcanic systems develop.
