Departamento de Orán

Departamento de Orán is an administrative region in northern Salta Province that covers a vast area of land. It contains several municipalities and shares its border with Bolivia.

The department was founded in 1794 during Spanish colonial times as a small settlement. Over time it grew into a larger region with increasing population and economic activity.

Agriculture shapes daily life here, with sugar cane, citrus fruits, and beans grown throughout the region as important crops. These farming traditions connect communities and define the local way of living.

San Ramón de la Nueva Orán serves as the main hub and connects to other cities through National Route 50 for ground travel. A regional airport provides air access for those arriving from farther away.

The forested areas contain a rich variety of plant species, including many different types of trees not found elsewhere nearby. Some of these species are now becoming hard to find in their natural habitat.
