Jaruma

Jaruma is a summit in the Cordillera Real that rises to significant elevation and features snow-covered slopes with technical climbing sections year-round. The mountain landscape displays different elevation zones with distinct geological formations and steep faces.

The mountain served as a natural boundary between different indigenous territories since pre-Columbian times in the Andes. This role shaped its cultural and territorial significance across the centuries.

Local communities perform traditional ceremonies at different times throughout the year, connecting them to seasonal celebrations and the rhythm of the land. These practices show how people maintain their relationship with the mountain through daily life and customs.

Climbers should spend at least a week in La Paz to acclimatize to altitude before attempting the ascent. The best window for climbing runs from May through September when weather conditions are more stable.

The summit provides opportunities to observe rare high-altitude plant species that grow only in specific soil conditions above certain elevations. This vegetation demonstrates how life adapts to extreme conditions.
