Balneário Gaivota extends along 23 kilometers of Atlantic Ocean coastline, featuring 49 small beaches and several freshwater lagoons in southern Brazil.
The municipality gained its independence from Sombrio on December 29, 1995, through Law 10.054/1995, following the growth of fishing activities in the region.
Local residents, known as gaivotenses, maintain fishing traditions while organizing beach volleyball championships and independence day parades throughout the year.
The municipal administration operates from Avenida Guanabara 452 in the Turimar district, providing public services to approximately 11,000 permanent residents.
