Riocentro, Exhibition and convention center in Barra da Tijuca, Brazil
Riocentro is an exhibition and events complex in Barra da Tijuca comprising four pavilions, three studios, and an amphitheater spread across a large site. The facility also includes accommodations with a hotel on the grounds to serve visitors and event attendees.
The center opened in 1977 and gained international attention when hosting the United Nations Earth Summit in 1992 focused on environmental protection. That event established the venue as a significant gathering place for major international conferences.
The center transforms during the Bienal do Livro into a space celebrating Brazilian literature through author meetings and book exhibitions. Visitors experience how this event brings readers and writers together to showcase works from across the country.
The site is easy to navigate thanks to good connections between the different pavilions and facilities. Plan enough time to move around the grounds, especially during larger events with multiple activities happening simultaneously.
One of the pavilions served as a boxing venue during the 2016 Summer Olympics, transforming to accommodate thousands of spectators for the sport. The space was specially adapted to meet the demands of hosting this international athletic competition.
