Army Military College, Military academy in La Paz, Bolivia.
The Army Military College is an educational institution in La Paz that trains officers for the Bolivian armed forces through a four-year program. Cadets complete their studies in military science and graduate with the rank of second lieutenant from the Military University of the Armed Forces.
The institution was founded by presidential decree in 1825 and initially modeled itself after the Paris Polytechnic School. This established the framework for formal military training in the country.
The school adopted its current name in 1952 to honor a former Bolivian president and military leader. Walking through the campus, you can see how the institution embodies the traditions and values of the country's armed forces.
The campus sits at altitude in La Paz and maintains restricted access to the main training areas. Most of the grounds are reserved for active cadets and military personnel, so general visiting opportunities are limited.
The academy began accepting female cadets in the late 1970s, marking a turning point for the Bolivian armed forces. This shift opened doors to women in military roles across the country.
