The Triplets bridges

The Triplets bridges comprise three consecutive stone structures crossing the Choqueyapu River in northern La Paz. Each one uses an extrados cable-stay design with a central plane of stays and a three-span deck supporting the road surface.

Construction took place between 2007 and 2010 as a major infrastructure project for the city. The design marked a shift toward modern cable-stay technology in Bolivian bridge engineering.

The three bridges carry names reflecting national values: Independencia, Libertad, and Union. These names shape how residents and visitors understand the civic identity of the city.

The bridges are well-maintained for vehicle and pedestrian traffic, connecting major neighborhoods in the north. View them best from the riverbank areas where you can see the full span and cable structure from different angles.

The bridges received international recognition for innovative cable-stay design, winning an award for signature bridge engineering. This honor is unusual for a Bolivian infrastructure project and reflects the quality of the work on a global scale.
