Estádio dos Aflitos, football stadium in Recife, Brazil
Estádio dos Aflitos is a football stadium located in the Aflitos neighborhood of Recife with a capacity of approximately 17,000 to 22,000 spectators and a pitch measuring 105 by 68 meters. The venue features wooden seating areas, basic concrete structures, and a central grass field surrounded by tiered stands.
The stadium was officially opened in 1939 after Nautico had been using the site since 1918. Floodlights were installed in 1941 to enable night matches, and it was formally named in 1953 after a significant club president.
The stadium is named after Eládio de Barros Carvalho, a former club president from the 1950s. It serves as a gathering place for Nautico supporters, where the passion and energy of fans create a strong sense of community during matches.
The stadium is easily accessible by public transport, with parking available around the well-maintained neighborhood. Visitors should arrive early to avoid queues, and purchasing tickets in advance is recommended.
In 1945 Nautico achieved an unforgettable 21-3 victory over Flamengo, one of the biggest routs in the stadium's history. The attendance record of over 31,000 spectators was set in 1970 during a match against Santa Cruz.
