Palácio do Campo das Princesas, Government palace in Recife, Brazil
The Palácio do Campo das Princesas is a government palace in Recife featuring eclectic architecture that blends various periods and styles. Its grand eastern facade, multiple halls, and ornate decorative elements showcase different architectural influences working together throughout the structure.
Construction began in 1841 under engineer Morais Ancora, replacing the former Royal Treasury building at Governor Francisco do Rego Barros's request. The structure received its current name in 1859 during preparations for a significant state visit.
The palace functions as the administrative seat of Pernambuco's Governor and hosts official state ceremonies within its rooms. Regional artworks displayed throughout the interior reflect the artistic and political identity of the state.
Advance reservations are necessary to tour this building, as access is restricted for administrative purposes. The palace sits centrally in Recife near where the Capibaribe and Beberibe rivers meet, making it accessible from downtown areas.
The building was renamed in 1859 in preparation for a high-level state visit, marking a turning point in its significance. During 1920s renovations, an advanced lighting system was installed throughout, reflecting how the palace adapted to modern conveniences of that era.
