The Portuguese Reading Office of Pernambuco occupies a three-story building with rounded arched windows and doors featuring intricate Neo-Manueline architectural elements.
Established in 1850, this institution emerged as a meeting place for the Portuguese community in Pernambuco, strengthening connections between Brazil and Portugal.
The center maintains an extensive collection of Portuguese literature, including an 1880 edition of Os Lusíadas and hosts regular literary events throughout the year.
Located at Rua do Imperador Pedro II 290, the facility welcomes visitors Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM and Saturday from 9 AM to noon.
The concert room contains a Steinway & Sons piano from 1876 and preserves soil from Guimarães Castle, connecting Brazilian and Portuguese heritage.
