Woodstock

Woodstock is a neighborhood in Cape Town that mixes old factories and workshops with homes dating from Victorian times. The area sits between the harbor docks and the mountainside, creating a varied streetscape.

The land was originally home to the Khoikhoi people before becoming farmland in the 1600s. By the 1800s, the area had become a desirable place where affluent residents built their homes.

The neighborhood serves as a gathering place where local creators display their work and ideas. Street art covers many walls, while weekend markets bring together artists, food makers, and people who appreciate handcrafted goods.

The area has two railway stations that connect you easily to downtown Cape Town and make getting around straightforward. Walking is pleasant on the flat parts near the harbor, though the terrain slopes upward toward the mountains.

A historic tree in the neighborhood marks where British and Dutch forces agreed to peace in 1806. The tree remains standing in the same spot, serving as a natural reminder of this turning point in local history.
