Artscape Theatre Centre is a multi-storey performing arts complex on the Foreshore, its facade a grid of dark-brown vertical fins above wide glass entrance doors reached by pale stone steps. Inside are three venues: the Opera House (1,487 seats, two wheelchair spaces), the Theatre (540 seats, fewer when the pit is used) and the Arena Theatre (140 seats).

The centre opened in 1971 as the Nico Malan Theatre Centre, named after Dr. Johannes Nicholas Malan, the National Party administrator of the Cape Province who initiated the project. It was built by Murray and Roberts Construction (now Concor) as the base for the Cape Performing Arts Board (CAPAB). In March 2001, after CAPAB was dissolved, the complex was privatised and renamed Artscape Theatre Centre.

Artscape is home to the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, Cape Town Opera and Cape Town City Ballet, all of which perform in the complex. The centre also runs a programme supporting new and established writers with workshops, readings and full productions, and its company promotes South African indigenous customs through the arts.

The complex sits on reclaimed land in the Foreshore, with the main entrance reached by a broad flight of pale stone steps up to glass doors beneath the "ARTSCAPE" parapet. The Opera House holds 1,487 seats with space for two wheelchairs, the Theatre 540 and the Arena 140, so check which hall your production uses before arriving.

A radio station broadcasts regularly from inside the complex, bringing classical music directly to listeners. Additionally, the center also manages a separate open-air theater venue in another part of the city.
