Eastern Province, Administrative division in Eastern Zambia
Eastern Province is an administrative region in eastern Zambia that extends between the Luangwa River and the borders with Malawi and Mozambique. It encompasses fifteen different districts within its area.
The Chewa people established a major kingdom in this area and developed a leadership structure that continues today under rulers like Kalonga Gawa Undi. This tradition of governance has persisted across generations.
The region is home to several ethnic groups including the Chewa, Nsenga, and Tumbuka, each maintaining their own languages and customs. You can observe these different traditions reflected in the daily life and celebrations of local communities.
Agriculture is the main activity in the region, especially the growing of sunflowers and other crops. When you travel here, you will see many fields and rural settlements since farming is the economic foundation of the area.
The area contains four national parks within the Luangwa Valley system with large wildlife populations and natural landscapes. These parks attract visitors who want to experience African wildlife in their natural setting.
