Buberuka Highlands is a protected agricultural area in northeastern Rwanda characterized by steep slopes and mountainous terrain. Elevations range from 1,800 to 2,400 meters, creating conditions suitable for farming throughout the region.
A research substation of the National Agricultural Research Institute was established here in 1987 at Rwerere. Since then, it has focused on studying and improving farming methods suited to highland conditions.
