Plaza Indonesia, shopping mall in central Jakarta
Plaza Indonesia is a multi-floor shopping center on Jalan M.H. Thamrin in Central Jakarta, one of the main commercial streets of the city. Its floors are divided between fashion stores, food outlets, a cinema complex, and a hotel tower that rises above the retail section.
Plaza Indonesia opened in the late 1980s as one of the first shopping centers in Jakarta to focus on luxury retail in the heart of the city. Over the following decades it went through several renovations and expansions to keep pace with the growing retail offer in the capital.
Plaza Indonesia sits right at Bundaran HI, the most recognized roundabout in Jakarta, making it a natural meeting point for locals and visitors from across the country. Walking through its corridors, you notice people gathering over coffee or browsing storefronts, giving the place a steady, everyday rhythm.
The center is easy to reach by the TransJakarta bus network or the MRT, with stops very close to the main entrance. Those arriving by car can park inside the building, though traffic in the surrounding area can be heavy during rush hours.
Below the main building runs a connected underground passage linking Plaza Indonesia to the adjacent Plaza Indonesia Extension, which many visitors never discover. This passage allows you to move between the two complexes without stepping outside, a welcome option during the midday heat.
