Kolong Tangga Children's Museum, Children's toy museum in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
Kolong Tangga Children's Museum is a collection of over 9,000 items from five continents, including toys, storybooks, posters, and comics related to childhood history. The museum displays these objects in exhibition spaces where visitors can explore the various elements from different cultures and time periods.
The museum was founded in 2008 by Belgian artist Rudi Corens, who donated his personal collection of 900 traditional toys to preserve Indonesian cultural heritage. This initial collection established the foundation for what has since grown into a collection of over 9,000 objects.
The collection showcases traditional toys from different periods of Indonesian history, including hand-carved wooden dolls and painted clay figures. Visitors can observe how play and childhood activities varied across different eras and communities in the region.
The museum is located at Taman Budaya on Sriwedani Street and opens Tuesday through Sunday from 9 AM to 4 PM. Entry is free for children, making it an accessible destination for families.
The museum runs a program called "The Museum comes to visit you" that brings educational experiences directly to children in hospitals. This initiative allows sick children to participate in curated activities without leaving their beds.
