Semarang Tawang railway station, Railway station in North Semarang, Indonesia.
Semarang Tawang is a railway station in North Semarang with eight tracks, serving as the main transport hub for the northern part of Central Java. The building has several platforms that handle different classes of trains for long-distance connections.
The Netherlands Indies Railway Company built this station in 1914 following designs by architect Sloth-Blaauboer. The new structure replaced the earlier Samarang NIS Station, which faced threats from tidal flooding.
The architecture shows a mix of New Indies Style forms with features from India, visible in the large dome and arched openings. The waiting hall keeps wooden benches and tile patterns that recall the Dutch colonial period.
The station connects with several Trans Semarang bus routes and offers trains in Executive, Premium Economy, and Economy class. The main hall and platforms are accessible by stairs and ramps.
A polder system in front of the station diverts regular tidal floods from the Java Sea that would otherwise reach the tracks. During high tides, seawater sometimes rises close to the platform edges.
