Candi Mirigambar

Candi Mirigambar is a brick construction featuring carved wall panels that depict scenes from the Angling Dharma legend. The remaining structure consists mainly of foundations and gateway sections that have survived to the present day.

Construction of this temple occurred between the late 13th and 14th centuries, during a period of major change in Javanese rule. Its origins date to the transition between the Singhasari kingdom and the rising Majapahit empire.

The relief panels on the temple walls tell stories from the Panji tradition, which held great importance in ancient Javanese culture. These carvings show how local artists translated their own legends into stone.

The site stands adjacent to a soccer field near Mirigambar Village in Sumbergempol District. Finding the location requires following local directions, as the temple is not immediately visible from main roads.

Excavations suggest this temple was part of a larger complex that included the Mliwis Putih bathing site and Tuban Temple ruins. The sites are scattered across the region, showing evidence of an interconnected sanctuary network.
