薩文塔神廟

Sawentar Temple is a Hindu temple built from andesite stone with ornate exterior wall niches located in Blitar, East Java. The structure includes brick foundation remains that show traces of a much larger ancient religious complex.

The temple was built during the early Majapahit period in the 13th century and served as a religious center in East Java. This era marked an important development in Hindu architecture throughout the region.

The temple displays carvings of the Garuda bird within its inner chambers, indicating worship of Vishnu. These sculptural details shape how the space looks and feels when you walk through it.

The western staircase features intricately carved makara ornaments along its railings, characteristic of Indonesian Hindu design. These water-creature motifs appear repeatedly in temple art of this period and reward close attention.
