Currumbin Ecovillage, Ecological residential community in Gold Coast, Australia
Currumbin Ecovillage is an ecological residential community on the Gold Coast comprising 140 homes for approximately 450 residents spread across 270 acres. The property preserves native bushland and provides shared facilities throughout the grounds.
The project began in the late 1990s through a group of environmental advocates and developed on former farmland. The first residence was completed in 2006, marking the start of the community's physical development.
The Old Dairy Community Hall serves as a gathering place where residents come together for yoga sessions, shared meals, and workshops. These shared spaces encourage neighbors to know one another and participate in community life.
The estate operates independently from public water supplies through smart water management and relies on solar power systems for electricity. Visitors should remember this is a private residential area where it is best to explore at a leisurely pace while respecting resident privacy.
Around 70 kangaroos live permanently on the grounds and share the space with residents. Domestic pets are restricted to preserve this natural wildlife population and maintain this distinctive feature of the community.
