Long Beach Naval Shipyard, Shipyard in Los Angeles
Long Beach Naval Shipyard was a repair facility for naval vessels in California with extensive dry docks and workshops. The facility could service and upgrade ships of various classes and sizes.
The facility was founded in 1941 and became a major center for naval repairs during World War II. It continued operations after the war until closing in 1997.
The site is no longer operational and cannot be visited as an active shipyard. It now serves other purposes and access requires special authorization.
The complex was noted for continuously upgrading its equipment and technologies to repair ships efficiently. Only historical photographs and records remain to show the work of hundreds of workers who once operated here.
