Getty House, Official mayoral residence in Windsor Square, Los Angeles, California
Getty House sits at 605 South Irving Boulevard and serves as the official residence for the mayor of Los Angeles in the Windsor Square neighborhood. The building displays Tudor Revival elements with dark timber, gables, and a formal garden laid out by A.E. Hanson.
Paul and Leta Paulson had the house built in 1921 and lived in it for several decades as a private home. Getty Oil Company acquired the property in 1959 and transferred it to the city of Los Angeles in 1975 for use as a mayoral residence.
The name comes from Getty Oil Company, which donated the property so elected officials could live there. Today the city welcomes guests at official occasions and uses the rooms for meetings with citizens and visitors from other countries.
The residence sits in the residential neighborhood of Windsor Square and is not open to the public because it serves as a private official home. Visitors interested in Tudor Revival architecture can view the exterior and front garden from the street.
Tom Bradley became the first mayor to move in during 1977, but after he left the house remained empty for many years. Antonio Villaraigosa moved in again in 2005 and made the residence an occupied official home once more.
