Windsor Square, Historic residential district in central Los Angeles, United States.

Windsor Square is a residential neighborhood in central Los Angeles covering approximately 200 acres with streets arranged in a grid pattern north of Wilshire Boulevard. Underground power lines and decorative street lamps mark the infrastructure throughout the area.

The neighborhood was established in 1911 by financier George Howard and developer Robert Rowan as a planned residential area. A defining moment came in 1958 when residents successfully prevented the construction of the Getty Oil Company headquarters, protecting the district's residential character.

The neighborhood features diverse architectural styles including Tudor, Italian Renaissance, and Dutch Colonial homes designed by accomplished architects like Paul Williams and John Cooper. Walking through the streets, you notice how these older residences shape the character of the district today.

The area is best explored on foot to appreciate the diverse architectural styles and quiet streets of the residential neighborhood. Early mornings or late afternoons are ideal for visiting, when traffic is lighter and the streets feel more peaceful.

The neighborhood is home to the official residence of the Los Angeles mayor, a distinction that sets it apart among the city's other neighborhoods. This status reflects the stability and prestige the area has maintained since its founding.
