Palms, Historic residential neighborhood in Los Angeles, US
Palms is a residential neighborhood on the Westside of Los Angeles with numerous apartment buildings and tree-lined streets. The area consists primarily of multi-unit residential structures spread throughout quiet streets.
The neighborhood originated in 1886 from Rancho La Ballona land and became the first area annexed to Los Angeles in 1915 following community votes. This early incorporation shaped its development as a residential district.
The neighborhood is shaped by numerous Indonesian and Indian restaurants that reflect its culinary diversity. Visitors naturally encounter these establishments while walking through residential streets.
The neighborhood has nearby Metro E Line access and connects to the 405 and 10 freeways. Several grocery stores, including Sprouts and Trader Joe's, are distributed throughout the area for convenient shopping.
The name comes from palm trees specifically imported and planted near the railway depot during the initial subdivision in the 1880s. These trees gave the newly developing area its distinctive name.
