Gateway West Building, International Style office building in Century City, Los Angeles, United States
The Gateway West Building was a 13-story office structure featuring an aluminum facade and expansive windows designed to flood interior spaces with natural light. The building contained approximately 250,000 square feet of commercial office space arranged in a straightforward, functional layout.
Construction was completed in 1963 as the first major development project in Century City, signaling the transformation of a former film studio into a modern business district. The structure anchored decades of subsequent growth and became a defining landmark for the newly developing area.
The building represents mid-century modernism architecture and established new standards for commercial structures in post-war Los Angeles through minimalist design principles.
The building was situated at the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and Avenue of the Stars in the heart of the business district. This central location made it easily accessible and well-integrated with the surrounding urban infrastructure.
The structure was demolished in 2015 to make way for the expansion of the Westfield Century City shopping center. This removal marked the end of a significant chapter in the district's development and reflected shifting priorities in urban planning.
