The Regional Museum of Anthropology and History occupies a contemporary building near Madero Park, featuring two main galleries dedicated to archaeology and state history.
Inaugurated in 1984, the museum showcases artifacts from Pre-classic Period dating back to 2000 BC through the Post-classic Period after 900 AD.
The archaeological gallery presents collections from Maya, Olmec, and Zoque civilizations, displaying their technological and social developments through centuries.
Located on Calzada de los Hombres Ilustres, the museum operates Tuesday through Sunday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM with free admission on Sundays.
The museum building received first prize at the Third International Architecture Biennial in Sofia, Bulgaria in 1985 for its modern design.
