Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, Protected area in Stann Creek District, Belize.

The sanctuary spans 128,000 acres of rainforest across the eastern slopes of the Maya Mountains, reaching elevations from 300 to 3,675 feet.

Established in 1986 as the first dedicated jaguar preserve worldwide, the sanctuary protects approximately 200 jaguars within its boundaries and surrounding areas.

Archaeological sites within the sanctuary contain Maya artifacts dating back to 10,000 BCE, including the ceremonial site of Chucil Baluum.

The sanctuary maintains a network of marked trails, allowing visitors to explore waterfalls, rivers, and mountain peaks between December and May.

Victoria Peak, the second-highest mountain in Belize at 1,120 meters, stands within the sanctuary borders and offers extensive views of the Caribbean coast.
