Cedeño, Rural settlement in Yarumal, Colombia
Cedeño is a rural settlement in the mountains of northeastern Antioquia, located about 42 kilometers from Yarumal. The village sits in a hilly landscape with rivers like the Nechí and San Julián flowing through the region.
The settlement formed around 1860 when travelers built straw huts and stone corrals in an area called La Poblazón. It became an official district in 1910.
The district received its name from Francisco Cedeño, a Venezuelan general who passed through the region during the Thousand Days War in Colombia.
The area has a temperate and humid climate with average temperatures around 20 degrees Celsius (68 Fahrenheit). Access is via a mountain road from Yarumal that takes about two and a half hours to travel.
The local economy is based on cattle farming and talc stone extraction. These natural resources play an important role in the daily life of residents.
