Chiconcuac de Juárez, town in Chiconcuac Municipality, Mexico

Chiconcuac de Juárez is a small town in central Mexico State located at an elevation above 2200 meters (7200 feet), giving it a cool climate. The quiet streets are lined with traditional brick houses painted in soft colors, small shops, and gardens that show how residents live their everyday routines.

Chiconcuac was once called San Miguel Chiconcuac and has roots in pre-Hispanic times connected to Aztec deities and calendars. The municipality was formally organized in 1868, and after the Mexican Revolution, farming lands were added to the town, bringing more people and activity to the area.

The name Chiconcuac comes from Nahuatl and means "seven snakes", referring to the ancient Aztec calendar and the harvest goddess Chicomecoatl. You will see wool weaving practiced in homes and shops, a craft that has been passed down through families for centuries and remains central to how people here make their living.

The town is easy to reach by local roads, and many visitors drive through fields and small villages to get there. You can also walk or bike to explore at your own pace, which helps you feel more connected to the rural landscape and the daily rhythms of local life.

The town's parish church houses a notable clock that was among the first of its kind to arrive in the Americas, brought by a local man named Juan León. This unusual detail shows how this small place was connected to the larger world despite its remote location.
