Basílica de Nuestra Señora de los Remedios

The Basílica de Nuestra Señora de los Remedios is a Catholic church set on a hilltop with neoclassical interior design, filled with detailed altarpieces and religious artwork. The complex includes a large atrium space, a western extension with chapel areas, and a semicircular structure featuring a monumental sculpture of Saint Michael.

The original temple was founded in 1574 under Viceroy Martín Enríquez and developed across several centuries. The church received basilica status in 1998 through Vatican decree, becoming part of a protected historic site.

The basilica holds a revered Marian statue from the 16th century that draws pilgrims and worshippers seeking spiritual connection. This religious figure shapes the daily prayer life inside the church and makes the location an important pilgrimage destination.

The site sits on a hillside and can be reached by foot or vehicle, with parking available on the grounds. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes, especially if exploring the surrounding areas.

In the 1760s an aqueduct system was built to supply water to the sanctuary, showing traces of its original engineering design today. This historic network demonstrates early Mexican water technology and remains of interest to specialists.
