Basílica de Nuestra Señora de los Remedios

The basilica stands prominently on a hilltop, featuring a neoclassical interior design with detailed altarpieces and religious artwork throughout the building.

Construction of the original temple started in 1574 under Viceroy Martín Enríquez, and the site received basilica status in 1998 through Vatican decree.

The basilica holds special significance as home to the oldest Marian statue in the Americas, measuring 27 centimeters in height and dating to the 16th century.

The church complex includes a 3,145-square-meter atrium, western extension of 2,400 meters, and amphitheater featuring a monumental sculpture of Saint Michael.

In 1765, Irish engineer Ricardo Aylmer constructed an aqueduct system to supply water to the sanctuary, which later became part of a National Park in 1938.
