Fort Bend County is an administrative unit in Texas that covers 885 square miles (2,292 square kilometers) in the southeastern part of the state. Urban areas alternate with farming lands and natural zones along the Brazos River.
This administrative unit was created in 1837 and takes its name from a military installation on the Brazos River. Cotton plantations dominated the economy at first, before the region changed through other industries in recent decades.
The name comes from a blockhouse built at a bend in the Brazos River. Residents speak many languages and bring customs from Asia and other regions with them.
Visitors can access government services and property records through local offices. Many locations throughout the area are easily reached by car.
