Renaissance Tower, Modernist skyscraper in downtown Dallas, Texas
The Renaissance Tower is a modernist skyscraper in downtown Dallas featuring 56 floors and standing approximately 270 meters tall. The building is distinguished by a glass-pyramid structure at its base that encloses a two-story underground food court.
The tower was originally built in 1974 as a banking headquarters and later received its current name. In 1986, it underwent major renovation and was fitted with broadcast towers to expand its functions for the city.
The building served as a filming location for the television series Dallas, appearing in numerous scenes that depicted corporate power. These appearances made it a recognizable symbol of wealth and the business world in the show.
The tower connects to neighboring buildings through protected pedestrian walkways that offer shelter from Dallas weather. These passages provide both visitors and office workers with a dry route when extreme heat or rain is present.
In 1981, a climber scaled the building's exterior while wearing a Spider-Man costume, drawing major attention from the city. This unusual stunt was performed as an act of inspiration for a young person facing serious illness.
