First Baptist Church, Megachurch in Downtown Dallas, United States
The First Baptist Church is a large religious complex in downtown Dallas that spreads across five city blocks with multiple buildings. The main worship center seats about 3,000 people and features modern architecture.
The congregation formed in 1868 and held its first services in a rented hall on Lamar Street before purchasing property. The cornerstone for the present church building was laid in the late 19th century.
The congregation operates kindergartens through high school programs on its campus alongside a radio station broadcasting in English and Spanish. Athletic facilities and youth meeting spaces occupy parts of the complex.
Three worship services take place every Sunday, with choir and orchestra performances in the morning and band-led gatherings in the gymnasium. The campus is large, so allow extra time when visiting to find your way around.
A major renovation in the early 2010s made this project one of the most expensive Protestant building efforts in recent American history. The work included construction of new educational facilities on the church campus.
