New Texas Giant, Steel and wooden roller coaster at Six Flags Over Texas, Arlington, United States
New Texas Giant is a steel and wooden roller coaster at Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington, combining wooden supports with steel tracks. The ride reaches a height of 153 feet (47 meters) and runs through drops angled at 79 degrees.
The ride opened in 1990 under the name Texas Giant as a pure wooden roller coaster before Rocky Mountain Construction transformed it in 2011 through a complete redesign using I-Box technology. This renewal introduced steel tracks mounted on the original wooden structure.
The three trains evoke Cadillacs from 1961, capturing the enthusiasm for American cars from that era. Each car carries these design elements, reminding visitors of the road cruisers from the middle of the last century.
The journey lasts roughly three minutes and runs over a track of about 4,500 feet (1,370 meters). Riders must be at least 48 inches (122 centimeters) tall to board.
The redesign consumed more than 900,000 board feet of lumber to reinforce the frame and carry the new tracks. It is considered one of the first hybrid conversion attempts of this kind in North America.
